Buy the Paint

Once you have chosen a colour, you need to decide what type of paint to use and how much of it will you need to get the job done. To determine the type of paint, consider what is currently on the walls. A water-based paint will have a matt, almost powdery appearance. You can paint either a water-based or an enamel paint over it.

Enamel or oil-based paint has a gloss finish, even if it is a matt gloss paint, and you can only paint other enamel or oil-based paints over it, unless you cover it with Duraline Universal Undercoat first. Read more about the different types of paint.

How much paint?

Measure the walls that you will be painting, then multiply the total width by the height to get the total surface area in square meters.

Duraline will be able to tell you exactly how much of a certain type of paint you will need if you give them these measurements. Remember to take the texture of the wall into account - a wall with a coarse, uneven texture will absorb more paint than one that is smooth. You also need to allow for possible repairs or patch-ups that may need to be done at a later stage.

Colour Tip
Warm or Cool?
Colors are often referred to as "warm" and "cool." Orange, red, and pink are considered "warm" colors, while blues, greens, and violet are thought to be "cool." Knowing the theory behind color can help you select the right tone for the feel you're trying to achieve.
